Permits - Check Before You Build

Like many municipalities, West Nottingham Township has adopted a zoning ordinance and building code. This means that property owners need to obtain a zoning permit for all projects, and possibly a building permit. Why do you need to obtain permits before beginning a project? A zoning permit is necessary to make sure that what you want to do is permitted in the zoning district in which you live. It also allows the Zoning Officer to determine whether your project is going to require other permits such as a building permit and/or a stormwater permit. A building permit is necessary to ensure that your project is being constructed in accordance with the adopted building code, for the safety of you and your family, guests, and future owners. Additionally, some insurance companies will not cover work or damages caused by faulty work done without the proper permits and inspections. Permits improve safety by allowing the building code official (BCO) to identify potentially flawed construction or unsafe conditions that could possibly result in injury. By following building code guidelines, your project will meet minimum safety standards. The required building code inspections will act as checks and balances, resulting in a safe project you don’t have to worry about. If you fail to obtain the proper permits for a project, the township will be forced to take action. This may involve additional fees, demolition of the project, or court action. For more information, please contact the Zoning Officer at (610) 932-4072 ext. 302.

Properties in pump zone 2 are due in 2026. It is the responsibility of the property owner to ensure that the township receives a copy of the pump out receipt. Receipts can be submitted by mail (P.O. Box 67, Nottingham, PA 19362), fax (610-932-6110), email (WNTSeptage@zoominternet.net), or drop them off at the municipal building. For more information, call 610-932-4072 ext. 300.
